NewsThe first "Go the distance" field in the State will be installed in Kochi, providing players and communities with access to safer and higher-quality athletic venues where recycled tyres are utilised to construct sustainable pitches. The GTD pitch, which is being built in Kadavanthra, will use rubber scraps from previously recovered tyres, combining sustainability and accessibility.
The playing surface for artificial football fields will be constructed by Apollo Tyres utilising 100% recycled rubber from its own tyres. In roughly a month, the GTD pitch in Kochi is anticipated to be completed. The average football pitch requires 1,500 automobile tyres. To overlay the pitches, the tyres are crushed into workable crumb rubber. A 160 x 90-foot football pitch uses about 7,500 kg of crumb rubber.
According to a corporate message, pitches have been launched at 15 distinct locations. The renowned Old Trafford stadium in Manchester, the home of Apollo Tyres' partner football team Manchester United, is where the first GTD pitch was officially opened.
Together with a local partner, the 16th pitch will be built in Kochi, adding to the expanding network of such athletic venues made from recycled tyres in Thailand, the United Kingdom, and India.
