Kochi to become a bustling hub for ship repair and shipbuilding as PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate projects worth ₹4000 crore on January 17

NewsAs Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to launch projects worth ₹4000 crore on January 17, Kerala's port city of Kochi is set to become a thriving hub for ship repair and construction, according to Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who made this announcement on Tuesday.
During a news conference held before the two-day visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kerala, the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways outlined three noteworthy projects. These include Indian Oil Corporation Limited's LPG Import Terminal, Cochin Shipyard Limited's International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF), and the New Dry Dock (NOD). According to Sonowal, these initiatives, which the prime minister will unveil on Wednesday, would help small businesses, and create jobs in addition to improving India's reputation internationally in the marine industry. The minister continued by saying that the initiatives were in keeping with the prime minister's "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas" vision and that they were creating a worldwide standard.
An official statement claims that the New Dry Dock, which was constructed at the current CSL location in Kochi at a cost of ₹1,799 crores, is a showpiece project showcasing India's talents in project management and engineering. It is among the region's biggest maritime facilities.
Modern technologies and technologies have been included in the New Dry Dock project to guarantee effectiveness, security, and environmental sustainability. The ₹970 crore ISRF project is situated on 42 acres of Cochin Port Authority-leased property in Willingdon Island, Kochi. In line with the Prime Minister's goal of establishing ship repair clusters around India, it will modernise and enhance CSL's current ship repair capabilities and aim to establish Kochi as a worldwide ship repair centre.
