Coconics, a laptop manufacturer based in Kerala, is getting ready for a relaunch by releasing four new models. The capital's Coconics facility was visited by Industries Minister P. Rajeeve on Friday. He said that the firm will relaunch in July as part of the introduction of new models to the market. With a change to its share structure, the firm, according to him, would become the first recognised public sector unit (PSU) in the State.
As part of a collaboration between Kerala State Electronic Development Corporation (Keltron), Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), and UST Global, Coconics previously introduced seven laptop models. Two of the four upcoming new models will go under the Keltron brand.
The machines all have BIS certification, including the tiny laptop. A total of 12,500 laptops have been sold since the business began producing them in 2019, according to Mr. Rajeeve.
KSIDC and Keltron will jointly hold 51% of the company's shares as a result of the change in share structure that was made to qualify it as a presumed PSU. UST Global will control 47% of the company, while the other 2% will be owned by start-ups that the IT department has selected. He said that Coconics will function as a self-governing entity. Laptops from Coconics are available for purchase on e-commerce sites including Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal. In addition to producing laptops, Coconics also presently makes tiny PCs, workstations, servers, and tablets.
Two lakh computers may be produced annually at the Manvila factory. The business is also ISO-certified. Kadakampally Surendran, an MLA, Industries department Principal Secretary Suman Billa, Officer on Special Duty Anie Jula Thomas, and Keltron MD Narayana Murthy were in attendance with Mr. Rajeeve.
