The Public Works Department (PWD), which accommodates more than two lakh visitors annually, is preparing to open Kerala's first women-only rest home. The establishment of an exclusive facility for women on the grounds of the Government Rest House, Thycaud, in Thiruvananthapuram has received ₹2.25 crore in funding from the State. It is anticipated that the two-story building's construction will be finished in 2025.
The State government has already declared that women's rest houses will be built as part of the construction of rest houses in the State people's rest homes, according to the office of Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas.
In a statement released here on Tuesday, the Minister stated that ladies travelling to the capital for a variety of reasons would benefit from the facility that will be built there.
The Minister said that the Public Works department will be giving Navakerala the facilities as a gift. The Minister stated that the State also intended to build similar facilities in other areas gradually, depending on how people reacted to this new initiative.He declared that the rest homes will still be renovated. Throughout the State, there are 156 rest homes.After the rest homes were added to the internet booking platform in 2021, the department received ₹7 crore in rent for rooms between November 2022 and November 2023.
There will be AC and non-AC rooms in the women's rest house.In addition to this construction, the department has approved funding for three State bridges. The Thaikarachira twin bridge in the Perumbavoor constituency, the Akamala bridge in the Chelakkara and Wadakkanchery seats, and the Parakkadav bridge in the Perambra Assembly constituency have all received administrative permission. ₹3.59 crore, ₹2.80 crore, and ₹2 crore have been approved for the construction of the Parakkadav Bridge, Akamala Bridge, and Thaikarachira Bridge, respectively.
