On November 1, 1956, all Kannada-speaking areas outside of the Mysore Princely State were united into a single State as a result of decades of demonstrations and the Karnataka Ekikarana movement. Mysore was the name of this recently formed State.
Just seventeen years later, on August 21, 1973, the Parliament passed a resolution to rename the State by passing the Mysore State (Alteration of Name) Act, 1973, following fervent lobbying by lawmakers, authors, and activists.
As a result, the Mysore State became Karnataka on November 1, 1973.It has been 50 years since that momentous choice was made.
Karnataka celebrates Rajyotsava Day with great enthusiasm and festivity. On this day, the Kannada hymn ("Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Tanujate") is recited, and red and yellow Kannada flags are raised at key points around the state, giving the entire region a joyful appearance.
