NewsThree months after its opening, all international travellers at Chennai airport may now utilise the new integrated terminal building (T2 terminal). Previously, outgoing flights were handled from the current international terminal (T4 terminal), while incoming flights were handled from the previous international facility (T3 terminal).
The whole activity was relocated to the new 1,36,295-square-meter structure on Friday. It was built as part of the phase II modernization project at a cost of around 2,500 crore. While one component of the new facility is now operational, authorities claimed that another piece will be built soon. The testing in the new facility began in the last week of April. This structure presently houses all 26 airlines.
According to Airports Authority of India officials, some retail shops have already relocated to the terminal. More stores are expected to open in the coming weeks. The permanent lounge would also be put up as soon as possible. "We are monitoring the maintenance so far and will ensure that there are no difficulties for passengers," an official stated.
