Four carriers will operate local flights from T2 in addition to international ones: AirAsia, Air India, Star Air, and Vistara.
T2 had originally planned to launch its global operations on August 31. However, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) said that the international flight operations at T2 will now begin one day later. T2 is referred to as ‘Terminal in a Garden’ and has been designed as a tribute to the ‘Garden City’ of Bengaluru.
BIAL planned to develop the terminal in two parts, and building on it started in October 2018. Phase 1, which is 255,645 square metres in size, will be able to accommodate 20 million passengers per year (MPPA) in the second phase, which is now in the planning stages. T2 will have the capacity to accommodate 70 MPPA once all phases are finished. As of September 12, 2023, at 10.45 a.m., Terminal 1 will operate as the hub for domestic flights operated by Indigo, Akasa Air, Alliance Air, and SpiceJet, according to BIAL.
T2 intends to reinvent the passenger experience with its cutting-edge infrastructure, effective business practises, and variety of retail and food alternatives. Bengaluru's worldwide connectivity will be improved, adhering to the strictest safety regulations, making sure that every foreign traveller has a smooth transition.
