NewsThe Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) of the Confederation of Indian Industry launched the grading and certification programme "Nest" on Wednesday in an effort to encourage environmentally friendly and sustainable building practises in the domestic housing sector. The environment-friendly grading and certification programme Nest was introduced by Ajit Kumar Chordia, the chairman of the IGBC Chennai chapter, as part of the annual conference that is scheduled to take place at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, from November 23 to November 25.
According to Mr Chordia, the yearly IGBC Green Building Congress 2023—which will take place in the city after a ten-year break—would give national construction industry stakeholders a forum to develop sustainable building practises in order to meet net zero carbon emission targets.
Nest would greatly facilitate the adoption of green building features by individual homeowners and the residential sector, therefore reducing energy and water consumption and promoting healthy living environments, according to M. Anand, Deputy Executive Director, IGBC.
As part of the conference, the Chennai Corporation plans to create new public conveniences that feature the green building idea under the gold rating standard, according to Mahesh Anand, co-chairman of the IGBC Chennai chapter.
The government of Tamil Nadu has agreed to serve as the Green Building Congress's partner state in 2023. The partner providing help will be the World Green Building Council.
