India’s longest sea bridge, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, will be opened to the public on December 25

The Maharashtra unit of the BJP announced that the public would be able to use the 21.8 km, six-lane Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), which is the longest sea bridge in India, on December 25. Though over 95% of the project has been done, the remaining jobs might not be completed by the end of December, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) - the government body in charge of the project,. Since the bridge would be the first to implement Open Road Tolling (ORT), cars would not need to stop there to pay the toll. A distance of 16.5 km is above sea level on the 22-kilometer bridge. Vehicles would not need to stop on the bridge in order to pay the toll because it would be the first to use an Open Road Tolling (ORT) system. A distance of 16.5 kilometres on the 22-kilometer bridge is above sea level.

Approximately 70,000 cars are expected to use the MTHL, which links south Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, every day. It would take 15 to 20 minutes to travel the distance between Sewri in Mumbai and Chirle in Navi Mumbai, where it is now under construction.

The BJP announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the "Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sea Link" will be inaugurated on December 25 of this year, which happens to be the late Prime Minister's birth anniversary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the foundation stone for the bridge, which Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited and drove on in May of this year.

A number of MMRDA officials have stated that owing to delays brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic, it is doubtful that necessary construction, such as electricity and toll booths, would be completed by December. There were construction orders issued in June of this year for the erection of polls, according to them.
