IISc Bengaluru faculty, Dr. Debasis Das, selected as EMBO global investigator for 2023 for his project on enzymatic dispersion of biofilms

For his work on the enzymatic dispersion of biofilms to fight biofilm-mediated microbial diseases, a faculty member from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has been chosen as one of the ten European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) Global Investigators in 2023. The EMBO Global Investigator Network provides excellent early-stage group leaders based in Chile, India, Singapore, and Taiwan with access to a wide range of networking, collaboration, and training opportunities. Dr. Debasis Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, is one of the scientists who has been chosen to join this initiative.

Soft tissue infections and biofilm-associated disorders are common and can occur on medical implants.

The chosen researchers, according to EMBO, work on basic scientific issues in a variety of domains, including single-cell proteomics, precision immunology, drug-resistant bacteria, neurological diseases, and leaf epidermal development.

According to Dr. Das, funding from EMBO would be available for travel to other universities, participation in training programmes, speaking at and organising scientific gatherings, and inviting members of EMBO's communities for lectures and scientific debates.
