Government would release a special grant of ₹50 crore for constructing a world-class tourist attraction in Mangaluru

B.S. Suresh, the minister of urban development, on Friday, November 24, said that the government will provide a special grant of ₹50 crore to build a world-class tourist destination in Mangaluru. He was addressing during the opening of the ₹24.94 crore international-standard swimming pool at Yemmekere, which was constructed by Mangaluru Smart City Ltd. (MSCL). On this occasion, the Minister also opened the 19th National Masters' Swimming Championship.

The Minister praised the swimming pool's building quality and standard, stating that not even in Bengaluru could one of its such be found. He advised the young people in the area to utilise the facilities in order to receive better training and win honours for the State and the country.

Three Smart City initiatives, according to Mr. Suresh, are still awaiting central permission. He asked Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who was in attendance, to have these projects approved. 24 Smart City initiatives were still in progress, despite ₹749 crore having already been invested on them. For development purposes, his department has given Mangaluru City Corporation ₹25 crore.

He asserted that politics had no place in development and added that, as the Minister of Planning, he could introduce new initiatives to Mangaluru.

In order to provide unfettered admission and departure into and out of the city, two twin railway underpass works were underway at Mahakalipadpu on the route going to Jeppinamogaru and farther south of Mangaluru. In a similar vein, the traffic bottleneck at Nantoor intersection has to be resolved. According to him, the city could only experience general growth when sufficient infrastructure was provided.

Those in attendance were Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur and Mangaluru South MLA D. Vedavyasa Kamath.
