Government likely to propose a penalty of up to ₹500 crore for violating provisions of the Digital India Bill

NewsThe government may propose a fine of up to 500 crore rupees for breaking the Digital India Bill's rules. In order to improve cyber security, the Centre may grant any government agency permission to monitor and collect traffic data that is created, sent, received, or stored in any digital system. Additionally, it seeks to locate, examine, and stop the transmission of viruses or malware.
The Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity) has been working on the draught of the Digital India Bill to replace the current IT Act, which was passed more than 22 years ago during the early days of the internet, According to sources, the proposed Bill will probably identify and describe the many types of harm that a victim could sustain in the digital environment.
Among other offences, it's expected to define and criminalise doxing, cybersquatting, astroturfing, and dog-whistling. In response to the difficulties presented by the advancement of artificial intelligence, the sources also stated that the Bill is expected to propose standards to regulate the development and application of developing technologies.
