According to authorities, the forthcoming Gole Market Museum will honour the historic "women of Delhi and India." The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) revealed on Wednesday its plans to resurrect the long-stalled conversion of the British-era Gole Market into a museum and renovate its surrounding regions, with the project expected to be finished within a year at a cost of Rs 21 crore. "A tender for the museum project has been finalised, and the theme on which it will be developed is 'Women of Delhi and India,'" authorities stated.
The museum will have panels with pictures and words that will depict the lives and times of prominent people such as Sarojini Naidu, Sheila Dikshit, Sushma Swaraj, and Mary Kom, among others. During a meeting last week, Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena and Union Minister and Member of Parliament from New Delhi constituency Meenakshi Lekhi discussed a presentation that suggested different themes for the museum to be developed at the heritage building, alongside shops, eateries and markets.
