Pre-packaged food labelling and display regulations have been modified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
It has requested that Food Business Operators (FBOs) replace "Best Before Date" with "Expiry Date" or "Use By Date" on the packaging.
According to a statement made in a formal announcement from the state government on Monday, the "Best Before Date" may be included on the label as extra or optional information.
Foods with a shelf life of less than three months must disclose manufacturing information in the "date-month-year" format.
