Fourth edition of the Kalaignar Memorial International Marathon in Chennai; 73,206 persons participated in the event

73,206 people took part in the fourth edition of the Kalaignar Memorial International Marathon, On Sunday, which was hosted in the city. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented the prizes to the winner, in the presence of Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P.K. Sekarbabu, Milk and Dairy Development Minister T. Mano Thangaraj, Central Chennai MP Dayanidhi Maran, and North Chennai MP Kalanidhi Veerasawmy, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented the prizes to the winners.

Mr. Stalin stated on the occasion that 50,629 males, 21,514 women, and 1,063 transpeople participated in the marathon, setting a Guinness World Record for the largest running event series. The DMK Youth Wing awarded a cash prize of $1,000 to each transgender participant. Mr. Udhayanidhi handed out the cash prizes. Over 500 government employees, including IAS and IPS officers, and over 1,500 Indian Army and Coast Guard personnel took part. As registration fees, a total of Rs.3.42 crore was received. The funds will be used to construct a cancer treatment wing at the Government Royapettah Hospital.
