FEUOK has requested the intervention of the State government to ensure the 42-day window between theatre and OTT release of movies

The majority of cinemas in the State remained closed on Wednesday as part of a symbolic strike against the early release of films on digital platforms, prompting the Film Exhibitors' United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) to ask the State government to take action to ensure the 42-day window between theatre and OTT (over-the-top) release of films.

A protest over the digital download of the film 2018 32 days after its theatrical release was held at the cinemas connected to the FEUOK and the Kerala Cine Exhibitors' Association. On Thursday, the token strike will continue. A portion of the Cine Exhibitors' Federation's cinemas abstained from the strike.

The attendance for the films 2018 and Pachuvum Athbuthavilakkum had significantly decreased in theatres as a result of their digital release, according to K. Vijayakumar, president of FEUOK. Mr. Vijayakumar claimed that 2018 could have continued to profit from theatre sales if the OTT release had been postponed.
