NewsOn the occasion of Earth Overshoot Day on Wednesday, students from the university gathered at the site to quantify humanity's ecological impact. The event was hosted by Moozhikulam Sala in collaboration with the Cusat National Service Scheme and Changampuzha Samskarika Kendram.
Several people, mostly older individuals, answered several questions provided by the students as part of assessing their ecological footprint using a method created by Global Footprint Network, a research group specialised in determining ecological footprint. "The questions centered primarily on the consumption of animal-based products in a week, housing type, and whether the person uses renewable energy resources," according to the volunteers.
They also solicited responses from participants on the amount of garbage created in their residences on a daily basis, as well as the frequency with which they used their vehicle and motorbike on a weekly basis. "We also gathered data on the average fuel economy of their vehicles and the frequency with which they carpool." "The use, if any, of public transport modes on a weekly basis was also considered when calculating an individual's ecological footprint," they explained. The students advised tourists to improve their lifestyles by embracing renewable energy sources and lowering their carbon footprint by using public transport and consuming fewer animal products.
