NewsA grand carnival on Red Road marked the end of Kolkata's Durga Puja celebration on Friday. The ceremony featured over 100 large-scale Durga Puja committees, and thousands of people came to see the idols of the goddess Durga being carried to be submerged in the Hooghly River.
As they marched along Red Road, each community Durga Puja that took part in the festival presented a small cultural presentation that included song and dance. The festivities revolved around Durga Puja and included a range of music and dances in addition to the goddess in her different forms.
The concept for a puja carnival was initiated by Ms. Banerjee in 2018, and the event will include the finest Durga Pujas. Since then, the funfair has been a major draw for Durga Puja attendees.
In addition, the ceremony gives the idols a few extra days to stay in Durga Puja pandals following Dashami, the day of the idols' immersion. In the State, there are over 43,000 community Durga Puja pandals, with 3,000 of them in Kolkata.
