NewsThe Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken several measures in preparation related to the G20 summit. These include beautifying the metro stations and metro pillars situated along the planned routes of the delegates as well as providing tourist smart cards so that people can visit points of interest. The DMRC anticipates a large number of people using the metro services over the next several days due to the traffic restrictions that have been issued in advance of the G20 meeting, which will be place on September 9–10.
The entry and departure of several stations, including Dhaula Kuan, Khan Market, Janpath, Supreme Court, and Bhikaji Cama Place, will be closed since they have been designated sensitive locations even though the metro will continue to run without interruption throughout the G20 summit. The nearby Bharat Mandapam, where the summit will take place, Supreme Court metro station will be completely shut down. Despite the limitations, the DMRC has launched a number of projects to update a number of stations in anticipation of the G20 meeting.
Along the paths the delegates will take, the metro pillars have been embellished with beautiful artwork. Vertical gardens with a large number of seasonal blooming and beautiful plants have been constructed at the Dhaula Kuan crossroads. In order to welcome the delegates and tourists, the Supreme Court metro station, formerly known as Pragati Maidan, has undergone a makeover with G20-themed banners and artworks. A freshly created pedestrian plaza is another feature of the station.
The DMRC installed cutouts featuring the G20 at prominent metro stations with heavy foot traffic to heighten the welcoming atmosphere. Baansera Park, next to the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Sarai Kale Khan metro station, now contains a melodic peacock fountain. The G20 logo will be illuminated by a projector at night, providing spectators with an attractive sight.
The DMRC is selling tourist smart cards at designated booths at 36 stations from September 4–13 for the convenience of travellers. These cards, which provide unlimited trips on the metro network, will be offered in two categories with one-day and three-day validity. While the tourist smart cards are being offered on regular days, separate counters have been set up to sell them for a 10-day period starting on Monday in anticipation of the G20 meeting. The programme makes it simpler for visitors and locals to utilise the metro and visit important Delhi landmarks including Akshardham, Qutab Minar, Lotus Temple, and Red Fort.
To provide easy access for passengers when entering or departing the stations, a specific anti-encroachment effort was launched at several stations, including the Chandni Chowk and Lal Quila metro stations.
