NewsAccording to authorities, the Delhi transport department will soon undertake a door-to-door search to find older cars parked outside of homes, on colony roads, and in public places that have not yet been demolished by their owners.
Senior transport officials claim that the decision was made last week at a meeting in which Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary Manish Gupta were present.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the traffic police, and other relevant departments would also be included in this effort by the transport department. 53 lakh overaged petrol and diesel vehicles, including scooters, automobiles, autorickshaws, and buses, have been de-registered by the department thus far.
A special drive has also been started by the department to crack down on such vehicles plying on roads and which are parked around houses and parks. The transport minister later asked officials to discontinue the drive and stop impounding and scrapping vehicles.
