Delhi's Ashram flyover inaugurated; passengers can bypass three traffic signals between Ashram Chowk and DND

Delhi's Ashram flyover for light vehicles was inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday. This will allow passengers to bypass three traffic signals between Ashram Chowk and DND.

Both the carriageways of the Ashram Flyover were closed for around two months due to the construction of a connecting road between the flyover and the New Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) Flyover since January 1, 2023. The Delhi Traffic Police had issued an advisory on Sunday evening requesting commuters using the Barapullah flyover to take the Ashram flyover from 5 pm on Monday to travel from Delhi to Noida.

The Ashram flyover connects South Delhi to Noida in Uttar Pradesh. The Ashram Chowk is a crucial link between south and central Delhi, as well as Faridabad. The junction links the Mathura Road and the Ring Road (connecting Lajpat Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan as well as the DND flyover).

The construction work of the flyover extension started in June 2020 after the project was approved by the Cabinet. The total cost of the project is Rs 128.25 crore while the total length of the flyover including the ramp is 1,425 metres.

The project was supposed to be inaugurated on February 28, but the event was postponed. 

The Ring Road witnessed huge traffic snarls on Monday morning ahead of the reopening of the Ashram flyover. Vehicles were seen struggling to move. Passers-by told India today that they were relieved about the reopening of the flyover.

Traffic jams were also seen on the Mathura Road and the Kalindi Kunj border connecting Noida.
