Delhi is set to get more eco-friendly buses as the city government will launch the next batch of electric buses in a few weeks. Currently, Delhi has around 250 e-buses and 1,500 more are being manufactured.

According to officials, the next batch which will be added to the fleet of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is part of the target of 1,500 that are expected to arrive by the end of this year in monthly batches. The buses will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and passenger safety features like CCTV camera, GPS, kneeling facility with ramp for disabled persons, fire detection and suppression system and panic button for women’s safety.
They will also have dedicated pink seats for women passengers, live video streaming in emergency situations, and will be monitored by the Central Command Control room, officials said.
Last year, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal flagged off around 150 e-buses and opened three e-bus depots at Mundela Kalan, Rohini Sector-37 and Rajghat Depot. The AAP government also has plans to induct an additional 2,000 e-buses, besides around 600-700 CNG buses. There are a total of 7,350 buses in Delhi of which the DTC has 3,670, while around 3,033 are under cluster services.
