NewsWith the possibility of a follow-up order, public sector business Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has secured a major international contract from a European customer for the building of a hybrid service operation vessel (SOV) for the offshore wind renewables market. The order is reportedly valued at more than ₹500 crore. For a different European customer, the shipyard is presently constructing two Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs).

The mission equipment on board the boats consists of a 3D crane, a completely electric cycloidal propulsion system, and a 3D motion compensated gangway system (walk2work). The boats must be classified using the most recent "Cyber Secure" and DNV "Clean Design" notations. To achieve a significant decrease in emissions, the hybrid electric propulsion system is powered by three 1,300 ekW diesel generator sets in addition to a large lithium battery pack. According to the letter, "The vessels shall have high standard interiors to accommodate 54 technicians and crew members with DNV comfort ratings and inbuilt dynamic positioning system and carry.
