Chennai airport will have two functional domestic terminals; this may reduce the congestion and queues for passengers

NewsIn October, when crowding and bottleneck are projected to decrease, air travellers utilising the domestic terminal at Chennai International Airport during peak hours may find it simpler to transit. Due to the airport's two operational domestic terminals, there may be less traffic and waiting times for passengers, especially those flying during the morning rush. This action was taken when the international flight operations were moved to the new integrated terminal (T2) in July after a portion of it was opened. The international terminal (T4), which was previously used for international flights until a few months ago, will now serve as the second domestic terminal while the current domestic terminal (T1) continues to function as usual.
The work to upgrade the T4 terminal had begun, according to representatives of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and it would be finished in a few weeks. "The counters for immigration are currently being taken down. The T4 terminal is being served by three conveyor belts. Before it can be opened, we simply need to make a few more adjustments and do rigorous cleaning. The ability of the airport to accommodate more passengers would be greatly increased by operating two domestic terminals, an official stated.
According to the officials, airlines like IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa would utilise the T1 terminal while Air India, Air Asia, and Vistara will use the T4 terminal. According to sources, it is crucial that signage is prominently displayed at all key intersections, such as the airport's approach and departure points and service roads, to let travellers know which airlines operate out of the T1 and T4 terminals. Despite plans to start operating two domestic terminals in July, it looks like that won't happen until next month. The T4 terminal's arrival hall will start operating, ten years after its debut.
