NewsOn Thursday in Chennai, at the opening of the 10-day Global Heritage Music and Arts Fest, vidwan Abhishek Raghuram received the Bharat Sangeet Samrat award. Padma Bhushan recipient T.V Gopalakrishnan awarded Mr. Abhishek with the honour in recognition of his services to music. The event was organised by Carnatica Global and Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha.
"It was great to see the tradition of our music continuing to flourish generation after generation," Mr. Gopalakrishnan stated during the event held at Sri Shankara Vidhyashramam Matriculation Higher Secondary School.
Concerts have started in Chennai along with the Margazhi season, and this event has scheduled performances at three different locations across the city. According to M. Krishnamurthy, secretary of the Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, "over 900 artistes will be performing across all genres in classical format in the fest."
Mr. Abhishek used mathematical terminology to explain music, saying that since content is unlimited and mapable to a third dimension, those who have worked specifically in the field of sound realise that music is a completely separate universe.
N. Kumar, Chairman of The Sanmar Group's Group Corporate Board, and Aneish Rajan, Director of the Ministry of Culture, Academies, and Kalakshetra, were also in attendance.
