NewsIn addition to digitising bus tickets, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will shortly release a smartphone app for live tracking. The Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) and Infrastructure, Facility, Human Resource And Realty Association held a panel discussion titled "Brand Bengaluru = Better Infrastructure" in Bengaluru on Friday. According to BMTC's Chief Traffic Manager K.R. Vishwanath, the app will have features like live bus tracking, fare information, and safety features for female passengers. The app is currently in development and will be released soon.
The BMTC missed multiple deadlines in the past and took years to launch the app. The company released a trial version dubbed "Namma BMTC" in April, but now the BMTC will update the entire app with new functionality. The BMTC first called the app "Nimmbus" (which means "your bus" in Kannada), but then changed the name to "Namma BMTC." To use the programme, choose between Kannada and English from two language options.
Mr. Vishwanath provided further information regarding the app, stating, "The app provides several benefits for users: it enables them to detect nearby stops, plan travels by supplying origin and destination points, following a live route, using the amenities at bus stations and TTMCs, among other things. The SoS button is available at the top of the app and can be used in an emergency. You have the choice to phone the company's call centre.
