NewsThe ceremonial raising of the Tricolour at the New Parliament building on 17 September, the day before the special session begins and in honour of Vishwakarma Puja, is planned to usher in a new era. The birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi falls on September 17. According to reports, the extraordinary session, which is slated to take place from September 18 to 22, would first take place in the old building before moving to the new facility. This would be the first meeting held in the New Parliament, which the prime minister officially opened on May 28.
The Central Public Works Department, which built the new structure, started getting ready for a "national flag-hoisting function" on Tuesday by putting out a tender to hire a public address system in front of the Gaj Dwar, one of the three ceremonial entrances. Two people with knowledge of the situation claim that this would mark the new building's first ceremonial flag hoisting.
Senior members of the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry and the CPWD visited the new structure on Tuesday as the session drew close. An official said that last-minute checks of the audio levels in the Rajya Sabha and the MPs' multimedia equipment had been made.
An official indicated that in addition to the current control room for the Integrated Building Management System, a new control room was being put up to handle any problems that could come up during the meeting. According to the source, it's also conceivable that the cafés and kitchens in the new facility will be used throughout the session.
Following the summit, the New Parliament will welcome speakers from the G20 nations' legislatures for the Parliament20 gathering on October 13 and 14.
