96th Academy Awards: "2018-Everyone is a Hero" has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category

The fourth movie from the language to get the award is the Malayalam survival drama Everyone is a Hero (2018), which has been selected as India's official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 96th Academy Awards. Prior to this, the nation's official submission for the Oscars was Jallikattu (2019), which was directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery and starred Mohanlal in Guru (1997), Adaminte Makan Abu (2011), and Adaminte Makan Abu (2011), all of which failed to receive any nominations.

2018 is a movie directed by Jude Anthany Joseph that is based on the record-breaking rainfall and flooding that struck Kerala in 2018. Tovino Thomas, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan, Kunchacko Boban, Lal, Narein, Tanvi Ram, and others make up the film's ensemble cast. The film served as a moving remembrance of the times when everyone in Kerala, regardless of their religion, caste, or political inclinations, came together to help people in need. The ensemble cast included Tovino Thomas, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan, Kunchacko Boban, Lal, Narein, Tanvi Ram, and others.

One of the main characters, Tovino Thomas, stated during an Instagram live that the entire team had worked extremely hard to complete the film despite several obstacles. According to him, the nomination would spread the movie's message of Kerala's citizens' solidarity throughout the globe.

The selection committee's chairman, filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli, had earlier revealed that the Film Federation of India (FFI) had chosen the Malayalam movie for its extremely timely themes of climate change and the struggles of people in the face of what has been perceived as "development" during a press conference at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce in Chennai on Wednesday. A 16-member committee headed by Mr Kasaravalli saw various films before making a conclusion, according to FFI President Ravi Kottarakara.
