NewsThe reconstructed Flower Market in Coimbatore was officially opened by Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru and Minister for Housing and Urban Development K. Muthusamy, on Wednesday. Under the "Namakku Naame" initiative, the Corporation rebuilt the Flower market in Ward 72 of the West Zone for an estimated $1.120 crore. The Coimbatore District Flower Traders' Association had a meeting on Saturday, and attendees from the market requested the corporation to create a parking area next to the market.
According to Corporation Commissioner M. Prathap, the renovated market contains bathroom facilities, flooring, drainage, a compound wall, and parking for 60 two-wheelers. The electrical room on the southeast corner of the old market that was in disrepair was destroyed, and a new room was constructed close to the entrance facing the road where 32 different metres have been linked, as per the Corporation.
The market's vendors claim that the Coimbatore District Flower Traders' Association requested store assignment in 2022 based on the seating arrangement in the existing market, which comprised 28 booths and 144 platform shops. To avoid down a tree to move the EB room, the organisation had attempted to reconstruct it.
