NewsOver 15,000 police officers, SWAT squads, and more than 200 police vehicles fortified with high-tech equipment and weaponry will be part of the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's opening of the new International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) on Wednesday. Because the event will take place at the same location, senior police officers believe it will act as a dress rehearsal for the security measures for the G20 Summit.
A large number of police officers from all districts, specialist units, traffic units, and other sectors will be deployed to provide security for the renovated 120-acre Pragati Maidan Complex. According to police, staffers will be on full-time duty to test plans for the summit in September. While most district police officers will patrol the whole complex, a limited group of cops, along with the NSG, will venture inside the 13-acre IECC to ensure the PM's safety.
The traffic department has been briefed about the G20 security plans and has made necessary accommodations, according to S S Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic). As per the authorities, police presence in the Lutyens region has been enhanced, and the Pragati Maidan Tunnel will be closed for the day since NSG soldiers will be in charge of the PM's protection in that area.
According to sources, more than 500 police cars would be employed, 200 of which will be handed to the Delhi Police security section for G20 arrangements. GPS systems, AI-enabled cameras, and weaponry will be installed in these vehicles. More than 800-1000 police officers from each area would be sent for the rehearsal, as per senior commanders. The rehearsals will be attended by 19 Delhi Police markswomen who just finished their training with the ITBP in Kerala. For the first time, the Delhi Police are using female SWAT units for protection.
