Second spaceport of ISRO will come up in about two years at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu

NewsA three-stage launch vehicle called SSLV can put 500 kg or more of satellites into a 500 km planar orbit. The main advantages of SSLV, according to ISRO, are its low cost and quick turnaround time; its ability to support numerous satellites; its practicality for launch-on-demand; and its minimal launch infrastructure needs. The PSLV and LMV3 rocket launches are now conducted from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, the only space station operated by ISRO. It has two launch pads.
In around two years, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will build a second spaceport in Kulasekarapattinam, in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, specifically for Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLVs) built by the private sector. The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) chairman, Dr. Pawan Goenka, stated on October 10 that the Thoothukudi area will host a complete launch centre that will be used only for SSLV launches. Approximately 2,000 acres have currently been purchased and given to ISRO. We will be starting in roughly two years with the project team in place, the budget decided upon, and the planning completed.
