Pondicherry University has started the process of implementing the National Education Policy from the current academic year

From the current academic year, Pondicherry University has begun the process of integrating the National Education Policy in courses offered on its campus and at all associated colleges. Vice-Chancellor Gurmeet Singh announced the decision at a news conference here on Tuesday, citing one of the NEP's primary strengths as the many entry and departure choices accessible to undergraduate students.

If students decide to leave the course after one year, they can obtain a certificate. Students who drop out in the middle of their studies can re-enter the academic programme at any university or institution of their choice or convenience. The NEP allows students to create an account in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) portal, he said.

He stated that the ABC will serve as a repository for information on course specifics and student grades. A student who wants to return to school after a hiatus might transfer his or her credits while enrolling in a university or institution. Several institutes are linked to the site, and the student will have the option of changing courses during the mid-entry period. Pondicherry University and its associated colleges have begun the process of developing the ABC site, he noted.

"The policy recognises the significance of holistic development in fostering students' cognitive, socio-emotional, and physical skills." It encourages students to investigate many disciplines by promoting an interdisciplinary approach. The NEP places the proper focus on mother tongue. It does not force any language, and the pupil has entire flexibility to select the language," he noted.

In response to charges that the NEP was an attempt to impose Hindi, the Vice-Chancellor stated, "It is completely false." The NEP places a high value on the mother tongue. The regulation allows students to study more than one language. The Tamil language is the oldest and richest, therefore it should be promoted. The kids should take advantage of the occasion. "There is no room for hatred of any language," he stated. According to Mr. Singh, the new policy integrates vocational education with general education, allows for the integration of skills across disciplines, promotes entrepreneurship, continuous evaluation, the development of skills in regional languages, and experimental learning through internship and apprenticeship.
