NewsOn Monday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal unveiled the city's first 'water ATM,' which distributes drinking water cleaned through the reverse osmosis (RO) process, in Mayapuri Phase 2. According to a senior source, the Delhi government has constructed four such water ATMs as part of a trial project, and plans are in the works to establish a network of 500 water ATMs around the city. Anyone holding a water ATM card issued by the Delhi Jal Board would be allowed to draw up to 20 litres of water daily from these ATMs for free, as per the official. He further stated that water drawn in excess of the daily allotment will be taxed at the rate of $1.60 per 20 litres.
"The installation of water ATMs is an important step towards ensuring that every Delhi resident has access to clean, pure water at their doorstep." Residents in places lacking water pipes would no longer have to rely on water tankers or contaminated water sources," Mr. Kejriwal said on Monday. "We have piloted this facility in four areas of the city, and the response has been very positive so far." "We will extend this facility to other areas of Delhi in the coming months," the CM stated.
