NewsOver 95% of the construction work on the 125-foot B.R. Ambedkar statue at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Park has been completed, and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will soon dedicate the structure to the country, according to Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Audimulapu Suresh. On July 25 (Tuesday), the Minister met with Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar to monitor continuing construction on the city's Swaraj Maidan statue.
"Right now, work is being done on the index finger, which is the most important part of the statue," Mr. Suresh said, adding that approximately 500 workers are working on the project. The monument, which is being built at a cost of 400 crore, has used about 518 metric tonnes of steel and bronze, according to the Minister.
A contemporary air-conditioned theatre, museum, and library will be built in the park to commemorate major events in Ambedkar's life. "We will ensure that all facilities are in place, as lakhs of tourists from not only the State, but from across the country, are expected to visit the statue after its completion," the Minister added. Mr. Suresh said that the Chief Minister is following in the footsteps of B.R. Ambedkar by creating several welfare initiatives for the underprivileged.
