NewsAn automatic external defibrillator (AED) will be installed at each metro station on Friday, World Heart Day, by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL). The organisation will install the gadget to provide cardio-emergency response, making it among the nation's first fast transport networks. The idea will be introduced by KMRL managing director Loknath Behera at the JLN Stadium Station, where the first machine will be unveiled. At the unveiling, which will take place at 12.30 p.m., Hibi Eden, MP, will be the special guest.
The project is being carried out by KMRL in collaboration with Awareness Programmes and Public Education Centre (APEC), a non-governmental organisation that has been active in disseminating information on cardiovascular safety throughout the State. Ten metro stations and two Water Metro terminals will have AED units installed in the initial phase. The emergency response equipment will be available at all KMRL and Water Metro stations. AED handling instruction will be provided to KMRL station staff, according to KMRL authorities.
