Gaganyaan project aims to show the potential of human spaceflight by sending a three-person crew into a 400-kilometer orbit for a three-day trip and safely returning them. Union Minister of Science, Technology, and Space Jitendra Singh said on Tuesday that the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) will carry out the test vehicle development flight (TV-D1) on October 21. This is a critical test for India's first human spaceflight, Gaganyaan.
"The development of many critical technologies, including a human-rated launch vehicle to safely carry crew members into space, a life support system to give crew members an earth-like environment in space, provisions for crew emergency escape, and evolving crew management aspects for training, recovery, and rehabilitation of crew members are prerequisites for Gaganyaan mission," Isro stated in its mission document.
Prior to executing the last mission involving human space travel, the space agency stated that the mission also aims to showcase the current state of technological readiness. Test vehicle (TV) flights, pad abort test (PAT), and integrated air drop test (IADT) are some of these demonstration missions. According to Isro, all systems' dependability and safety will be demonstrated in unmanned missions that come before manned operations.
