NewsThe government's attempts to purify the public distribution system (PDS) to enhance service delivery and provide better advantages for economically disadvantaged groups have been stressed by Food and Civil Supplies Minister G.R. Anil. At a gathering held on Tuesday, Mr. Anil announced the launch of the State-level distribution of Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cards to 15,000 economically disadvantaged households. Since taking office, the administration has issued 3,56,244 priority ration cards. Among these were several priority ration cards that were found on ineligible individuals.
According to him, 41,614 additional cards were found during Operation Yellow, which resulted in the voluntary surrender of 1,64,643 cards and the imposition of fines of ₹4.81 crore on their users. To find more priority ration cards that qualified individuals may get, the Food and Civil Supplies division has started an investigation into almost 13,000 AAY cardholders who haven't picked up their ration supplies in the last six months. In addition, over 26,000 recipients had not yet picked up their complimentary Onam kits that the government had sent them. Mr. Anil noted that the responsibility of determining the circumstances underlying these occurrences has fallen to rationing inspectors.
