In September, the Kochi metro will finally get its fleet of feeder buses. According to reliable sources, a total of fifteen air-conditioned electric buses will begin providing services from metro stations to outlying towns and business centres.
Up to 32 e-buses were to be purchased, according to orders Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) had placed earlier this year. This came about as a result of the KSRTC citing a lack of buses to provide sufficient feeder services from metro stations. Originally, June was when the buses were supposed to be delivered.
With the exception of a few feeder buses that run on a lease from the Aluva metro station to the international airport, which is about 10 km away, there were very few e-buses in the Ernakulam area. However, Thiruvananthapuram had an early edge thanks to the KSRTC, which runs about 120 e-buses on 48 routes that were purchased through Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited's (SCTL) e-mobility section.
