India's first manned submersible - 'Matsya 6000' to carry three people to a depth of 6,000 metres for studying deep sea resources

The "Matsya 6000," India's first manned submersible, will take three persons to a depth of 6,000 metres to examine deep marine resources. The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) is constructing the submersible as part of the Samudrayaan project.

The goal, according to NIOT director Anand Ramadass, is to design, develop, and demonstrate technology for the sustainable use of ocean resources. "Matsya 6000 can conduct scientific research at a depth of 6 kilometres and can accommodate three people. According to Ramadass, controlling inner space is just as challenging as controlling outside space. The pressure will be 600 times more than it is at sea level and the temperature will drop to 2°C at the 6,000 metres of depth the submersible would reach.
