To improve High Performance Computing (HPC) in India, the American technology corporation IBM and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding. With an emphasis on processor design, system design, firmware, and application development—including contributions to open-source projects—the alliance seeks to support the development of India's developer community.
The goal of the partnership is to use IBM's Power processor for HPC applications, with a focus on Indian academic institutions, research organisations, startups, and MSMEs.
Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT, Jal Shakti, and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasised the government's goal of making India a worldwide centre for semiconductors as well as the revolutionary potential of semiconductors in a variety of industries. The goal of IBM and C-DAC's partnership is to create a whole HPC ecosystem in India, not only market a processor. This include assisting new businesses and established ones in creating dependable HPC systems, working together to develop innovations across the whole technological stack, and leading seminars aimed at enhancing capacity.
