Council meeting of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation decided to prepare a flood mitigation master plan for the capital city

The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation's council meeting on Friday voted to design a master plan for the capital city's flood prevention. The office of Mayor Arya Rajendran released a statement stating that the council has chosen to assign this assignment to the Indian Institute of Technology - Roorkee (IIT - Roorkee). Even while these periods of intense rainfall are often brief, the city has recently experienced severe waterlogging in low-lying regions.

With a population of over 10 lakhs, the Corporation region has been seeing an increase in the frequency of rainfall-related emergencies.

Currently, the Corporation oversees coordinating the separate initiatives carried out by several government ministries. However, the Corporation believes that a more scientific approach is necessary given the current scenario.

"A new system and policy are needed to tackle this," the Corporation stated. It said, "This necessitates a scientific investigation and subsequent response. The council's decision is also being made considering the waterlogging that several city regions experienced after Wednesday night's storm.
