Vehicle owners in Pune will get a smart card in a new form, from July 1

Due to a lack of smart cards, thousands of vehicle owners in Maharashtra who had been waiting months to receive their new RC (vehicle registration certificate) books and permanent licences will soon be able to pick them up. The state transport agency has chosen to use contemporary equipment to speed up the printing of smart cards as a result. To speed up the creation of new RC books and permanent licences, the government plans to create at least 45,000 smart cards each day. Additionally, compared to the older smart cards, the new ones include a different format, higher quality, and cheaper price. Owners of vehicles will be able to purchase the new smart cards starting on July 1.

The name and address of the vehicle owners will no longer be printed on the smart card by regional transport offices (RTOs), according to information provided by the state transportation department. This is a first. This privilege will now only be available to the three RTO offices in the state (Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur).

Owners of vehicles will now receive a smart card in a revised format. This has undergone the necessary modifications. There will be a lot of cards available, and they will be of high quality. Therefore, vehicle owners won't have to wait for the card, according to state transport commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar.

The Hyderabad-based business Rosemarta and the state transport department's prior agreement for the supply of smart cards has been dissolved. Manipal Technology Company of Karnataka has been given the new contract for the supply of smart cards.
