Vathsalya Charitable Trust (VCT) is an organization based in Bangalore, Karnataka, that works with the migrant community, focusing on empowering women through skill development and strengthening families by facilitating access to improved nutrition and education. Established in 1988, VCT initially began its work as a child care and adoption center for homeless and orphaned children, with the primary mission of providing these children with loving families through adoption, allowing them to develop in supportive and compassionate environments. In 2013, the trust transitioned its focus to become a family-strengthening organization, dedicated to ensuring the preservation and strengthening of families.
VCT employs a comprehensive approach that starts with the Child Nutrition Program (CNP), which supports pregnant mothers and infants. Following this, children are able to progress to their Child Development Center (CDC), where early childhood education is a key focus. For children who demonstrate academic potential, VCT offers an Education Sponsorship (ES) program to support their academic advancement. Recognizing the particular challenges faced by single-mother families, the trust launched the Income Generation Program in 2017, which provides training and the necessary support to help stabilize these families economically.
