Vardhman Mahavir Medical College was founded at Safdarjung Hospital by the Government of India in November, 2001. On December 17, 2001, it was inaugurated by the then-honorable prime minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in the presence of founder principal Dr. Jagdish Prasad, Shri L.K. Adani, and Shri C. P. Thakur.
VMMC is connected to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University; New Delhi. The VMMC College has made a name for itself in the Indian medical community during the past ten years. (A medical wonder as reported in August 2013 by India Today Aspire.)
The main hospital in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is Safdarjung Hospital, which has been providing high-quality healthcare to all social classes since before independence.
