The Valluvar Kottam Monument honours Thiruvalluvar, the poet from Tamil who penned the well-known Thirukkural. This 39-meter (128-foot) monument is designed like a chariot and is a duplicate of the Thiruvarur temple chariot. In the Valluvar Kottam chariot, there is also a life-sized statue of Thiruvalluvar.
Valluvar Kottam has an auditorium in addition to the chariot. Its exquisite design, which is a sight to behold, attracts tourists. It used to hold about 4,000 people, making it the biggest hall in all of Asia. The granite pillars resemble book leaves in form. And the Thirukkural's thirteen hundred verses are engraved upon these columns.
The Valluvar Kottam Monument consists of a sizable auditorium and a chariot made of three thousand granite stone blocks. Up to 40 tonnes is the weight of the biggest of these stones. Drawings in Kalamkari cover them. The enormous wheels of the stone chariot are about two feet thick and eleven feet in diameter. Additionally, the auditorium is 220 feet by 100 feet in size.
One of Valluvar Kottam's distinctive qualities is its lack of foundation and pillar support. Another noteworthy aspect of this Thiruvalluvar memorial in Chennai is the lion on the main entryway, which is decorated with lovely decorations.
