Vadapalani Andavar Temple is a Hindu temple devoted to Lord Muruga. It is situated in Chennai's Vadapalani neighbourhood. In the 1920s, a Rajagopuram was constructed and it was refurbished.
An enthusiastic follower of Murugan named Annaswami Nayakar constructed the temple in the late 1800s. He was an ardent follower of Murugan and had constructed a little thatched house where he installed a painted image of the god and began to worship him.
The temple is constructed following the conventional designs of south Indian temples. The stories from the Skanda Purana are portrayed on a number of stuccos at the Rajagopuram at the entryway. Standing in a position similar to the idol of the Palani temple, the primary deity is called Moolavar.
108 Bharatnatyam dance motions are used to symbolise an eastern tower. 40.8 metres is the height of the tower. There is a large hall at the temple where religious talks and marriages are performed.
For Murugan, there is a golden chariot. The temple is fronted by the temple tank. Devotees bind little swings for their offspring around the Thala Vriksham, a fig tree.
