News EventSamaBhav, a two-day touring film festival, will begin on Tuesday at Sacred Heart College Film Club in collaboration with the English Department and Men Against Violence and Abuse (MAVA). The festival's themes include gender, sexuality, masculinity, and diversity. The 24 national and international short films, documentaries, and features in the festival package cover gender and related subjects. The videos address gender-based discrimination and violence against women, as well as gender binaries, toxic masculinity, and transphobia. Ruchibhedam, Naanu Ladies, Gandi Baat, We Need to Talk, Gair, Counterfeit Kunkoo, Sandhya, Muhafiz, Footprints, Sunday, My Mother's Girlfriend, and Black Roses and Red Dresses are among the films that will be shown.
SamaBhav (Equanimity), a touring film festival celebrating its fifth year, began its voyage this year in Mumbai in February. Bengaluru, Pune, Guwahati, Kohima, Chennai, Srinagar, and Ahmedabad are on its itinerary for the year, in addition to Thimphu (Bhutan) and Jakarta (Indonesia). The event, which is available to college students, aims to engage youth by bringing them together with specialists on modern gender issues and intersectionality in relation to all genders. Its goal is to offer a secure, non-threatening environment for people to express themselves. The debates will feature gender rights advocates Harish Sadani, Lavanya Soman, Prof. Asha Achy Joseph of the Women in Cinema Collective, and LGBT rights activists Anagh and Sheethal Shyam.
SamaBhav will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. in Marian Hall, Sacred Heart College, Thevara.
