NewsFollowing the completion of the two-day G-20 Leaders' Summit on Sunday at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, traffic restrictions in the city were eased at midnight. In the lead-up to the major event, the Delhi police had deployed almost 50,000 officers to control traffic. Restrictions were put in place in several areas of north and central Delhi earlier in the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi led numerous G-20 dignitaries, including the presidents of several States, to Rajghat to pay respects to Mahatma Gandhi. For UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunk's visit to Delhi's Akshardham Temple, adequate security measures and limitations were also implemented.
Due to the barriers put in place by the police, vehicular movement was impeded in a number of locations around the city, including New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Shanti Van, Delhi Gate, ITO, and Rajghat. Between ISBT Kashmere Gate and Sarai Kale Khan, bus operations on the Ring Road were put on hold.
Delhi Traffic Police claimed it got around 2,500 calls per day between Thursday and Sunday on its traffic helpline 1095, calling the security measures during the summit a success. The hotline often receives 400 calls every day. Over the course of the four days, the police's WhatsApp hotline also got close to 2,000 inquiries every day, according to a statement from the police.
