Thiruvonam bumper lottery 2023 carrying a first prize of ₹25 crore was unveiled on Monday

NewsThe 2023 Thiruvonam bumper lottery was inaugrated by Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal on Monday, with Rs. 25 crores as first prize. The State Lotteries department, which runs the lottery, has maintained the same top prize as last year. However, the second and third rewards have been redesigned to make the lottery more appealing to customers. The second reward is worth 20 crore, which would be distributed evenly (1 crore each) to the 20 winners. The final reward is worth Rs. 50 lakh to each of the 20 winners.
This year, the department has also raised the overall amount of rewards. The figure has risen from 3,97,911 last year to 5,34,670 this year. The fourth reward is worth 5 lakh to each of the ten winners, while the fifth award is worth 2 lakh to each of the ten winners. The lottery ticket costs Rs.500, like it did last year. Tickets will go on sale on July 26. The draw will take place on September 20. Last year, the government increased the first reward to 25 crore. In terms of sales, the 2022 edition established a new high. 66.55 lakh of the 67.50 lakh tickets printed were sold. The department has the capacity to produce up to 90 lakh tickets.
The 2022 Thiruvonam bumper had also made headlines as the winner, Anoop B., of Sreevaraham, Thiruvananthapuram, was bombarded by people, many of whom were strangers, demanding his assistance. The Lotteries department had instituted a training session in the previous year to assist winners handle their earnings responsibly. As part of its marketing plan, the department just debuted a new mascot, a green grasshopper.
Antony Raju, Minister of Transport, presided. At the event, P.P. Kunhikrishnan, who won best character actor (male) at the Kerala State Film Awards, was celebrated. Abraham Renn, Director of the State Lotteries, and several agency officials were present.
