Tamil Nadu Agricultural Universitys sixth Covai Flower Show, to take place from February 23 to 25
23 Feb 2024
EventFollowing an 11-year hiatus, the sixth "Covai Flower Show" of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) will take place from February 23 to 25. It will include an extravagant flower spectacular at the campus' 25-acre Botanical Garden.
Over two hundred types of flowers are to be displayed in various forms and structures: rare exotic flowers such as nanksias, leucosperumum, ornamental brassica, hypericum, peony, kochia, protea, and ornamental pineapple; and more than two hundred varieties of cut flowers such as rose, anthurium, orchid, lilium, carnation, gerbera, lisianthus, bird of paradise, heliconia, gypsophila, and statice.
The event, themed "Let Your Dreams Blossom," aims to educate the public and schoolchildren about the economic significance of flowers, environmental protection, and biodiversity. The previous flower exhibition, which took place in January 2012, had over two lakh visitors; this time, vice chancellor of TNAU V. Geethalakshmi told reporters on Tuesday, a substantially higher number of people are anticipated to attend. The event is being hosted in collaboration with six Rotary clubs.
On a five-point grading system, the Ooty Botanical Garden gets a higher score (4.3) than the TNAU Botanical Garden (4.2).
Every flower type on the plants will have a QR Code that visitors may scan to learn more about the species.
A lineup of illustrations featuring both dry and fresh flowers will be present. The Vice-Chancellor stated that among the many attractions would be a tulip garden, exotic plants from the Netherlands, a bonsai island garden, a sunken garden similar to those in Japan, a flower gallery, Oxygen Park (which allows visitors to feel rejuvenated after strolling), Miyawaki Garden (which has several species of forest trees) with soothing humidity and temperature (four to five percent lower), a multi-tier crop, a tropical orchid plant, a cut flower gallery, and an exotic flower gallery.
During the flower exhibition, which runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., there will be an art gallery where talented people may display their work and a competition for schools and the general public to make flower rangoli.
The other features, according to Prof. Geethalakshmi, include fountains and lighting, a vintage car exhibition, stalls by banks and agro-based entities, a dog show, a Maze Garden, a gallery for vegetable and fruit carving, a sales counter, free yoga instruction, and plenty of selfie spots.
There will be a set admission cost, but children will go in free.
The Vice-Chancellor promised that there would be plenty of parking, food courts, and adequate sanitary facilities for the guests.
